CMS Extends Deadline for Revising Worksheet S-10s
With Worksheet S-10 implemented into the uncompensated care calculation formula, hospitals have been diligently working to revise their Worksheet S-10s for Fiscal Year (FY) 2014 and 2015, the first FYs that will be used in the new formula starting in FY 2018.
As anticipated, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) set deadlines for submitting revisions to Worksheet S-10 for both FYs. In June, they set a September 30, 2017 date for FY 2015 Worksheet S-10s. In July, they set the same date for FY 2014 Worksheet S-10s.
Following the recent hurricanes, CMS issued an announcement that extended the deadline date to October 31, 2017 for states impacted by those hurricanes. Healthcare Payment Specialists (HPS) has spoken with three separate Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) who confirmed that a separate technical directive was issued late last week directly to the MACs which broadens this extension to all IPPS facilities.
What Does This Mean for Hospitals?
The extension of the deadline provides an additional opportunity for hospitals to revise their Worksheet S-10s for FY 2014 and FY 2015. As we have stated in previous blogs, delivering accurate and complete Worksheet S-10s will be vital for hospitals under the new uncompensated care formula outlined in the FY 2018 Final Rule to ensure that they receive their portion of the national uncompensated care pool.
